Snapshots From The 2014 Mille Miglia
“The Mille Miglia is a ray of sunshine in your heart,” famous Belgian race car driver Jacky Ickx writes in Chopard’s commemorative book celebrating 25 years of being the race’s global sponsor.
Surely Ickx was referring to both the aesthetic elements of this mother of all classic car rallies and the wild enthusiasm of the spectators lining the streets. Both are joyous additions to the pure adrenaline rush created by the wind in your hair and the hum of the motor.
And while for a car buff, there is no greater joy than racing through the divine landscapes of the Italian countryside in a beautiful vintage roadster, it’s also hard work to keep these classic beauties maintained and driven. Indeed, it remains one of the greatest adventures of modern motoring.
“The Mille Miglia is one of the last great adventures possible today,” concurs Karl-Friedrich Scheufele. Chopard’s co-president is racing his 25th Mille Miglia this year.
Here are a few impressions from the last couple of days and nights on the strada italiana . . . .
